Ian Fontova’s works fuse Celtic melodies with a variety of other genres, such as Epic, Funk, Electronic or Post-Rock.
A New Place is a single I made when I moved in with my partner and our cat Jazz. It was a really important moment in my life, I had a lot of nice feelings inside. So, after getting the new studio ready, I decided I wanted to make a song that helped me remember those days forever.
Tales of Olden Vol. 1 is an Epic Celtic Fantasy album that combines real Folk instruments recorded in the studio, like whistles, uilleann pipes, bouzouki… with orchestral samples programed in the computer. I experimented with this fusion before, but I wanted to work on a project that fully focused on it.
What I try to achieve with this kind of music is a listening experience that helps people feel transported to fantasy worlds, and making a full album would allow to go through it as some kind of journey where the listener visits different places.
I first wanted to make a single long album, but soon I realized that this would take me too long, so it was better to split it in various volumes.

For many years, I felt reluctant to ask for economic support from my audience. I thought that making my music was just a hobby. I have so much fun making it, while most people have jobs with terrible working conditions. Everyone works 8 hours a day or more, which I’ll never stop thinking it’s absolutely barbaric, as it doesn’t leave any extra time and energy to enjoy life. And I am going to ask them for support?
It was a hard process for me to recognize the value of what I do and find the courage to ask for help. To summarize it, I’ll just leave you with a fragment of Amanda Palmer’s brilliant ‘Ukelele Anthem’:
Imagine there’s no music, imagine there are no songs. Imagine that John Lennon wasn’t shot in front of his apartment. Imagine if John Lennon had composed “Imagine” on the ukulele, maybe folks would have more clearly got the message.
You may think my approach is simple-minded and naïve, like if you want to save the world then why not quit and feed the hungry. But people for millennia have needed music to survive, and that’s why I’ve promised John that I will not feel guilty.

Archers of Dion is a single I released in between longer projects. Basically, I got an accordion, which is an instrument I wanted since I was little. I could actually say that for most instruments, though. Anyway, after fooling around with it for some weeks, I had no current project to fit it in, so I just made this one up for it! Can you guess where the title of the track comes from?
