Ian Fontova’s works fuse Celtic melodies with a variety of other genres, such as Epic, Funk, Electronic or Post-Rock.
Oaken is a turn-based tactical roguelike video game, set in a fantasy world inhabited with fable-like creatures and spirits. We wanted to get this Celtic Fantasy vibe with the music, but also give it a twist to make it more unique. That’s why we introduced a Funk Bass and a Cajon to the instrument set.
Listening to the soundtrack, we can follow the same journey as in the game. Starting at the peaceful and magical Crown of the giant Oak, where the corruption does not reach, to the Sea of Serpents or the treacherous Roots, which are some of the last levels of the game.

I was lucky that my song The Journey caught the attention of the BJK Murgtal Wind Orchestra , and they liked it enough to perform it live!
After some email exchanges where I facilitated the sheet music, and the incredible work of Alexander Weber, who made this beautiful arrangement, this is the result. Not only did he arrange it for the different instrument set, but also he made some variations to the song structure, so the timings work better for a life performance. I’m honored that they spent so much time and work on this, it turned out awesome!
I’ve been a fan of The Witcher video game saga since I was a teenager, and making this medley was on my list for many years. From the nostalgic melodies of the first and second games, to the Slavic and Epic sounds of the third one, these soundtracks got so much praise for a reason. I’m happy I got to feature them in a project that was so fun to make!
Izei is a collaborative project we did together with Tartalo Music , an awesome Epic Celtic and Basque Music artist, and a good friend of mine. After a few trips busking around the Pyrenees, we decided to grab the setlist we were playing and record it for an album.
It initially featured traditional Celtic and Basque tunes only. But the crowdfunding campaign went so well that we ended up making an original extra song for the album, ‘Eresia’, as that was one of the potential rewards. Tartalo Music worked on the Epic orchestrations and the mix, and I worked on the production of the Acoustic versions.
